The Christmas Crusade for Children

The Shawano Police Department, in partnership with the Shawano County Sheriff's Department, deliver gifts to children in the City of Shawano and Shawano County, who ordinarily would not receive gifts for Christmas.
The program continues to be a very successful. The children who are to receive gifts are assigned a number, then New Results Broadcasting announces the number of each child and their gift requests over the radio.

Various individuals, and groups, adopt a number for a child and purchase gifts for that child. Once the gifts are collected, officers and staff from the Police Department, as well as volunteer citizens wrap the gifts. Santa, riding in a squad car, and assisted by Police Officers deliver the gifts to the children.

The Christmas Crusade is a community project and all the gifts are donated by individuals, civic groups and professional organizations as well. Students from the Shawano Community Middle School collect pennies to buy gifts for the children. Staff members from the Theda Care Clinic, Shawano Medical Center, Sweet Adelines, and Woodland Chapter of the Wisconsin Deer Hunters Inc., are just a few of the groups donating time and money to the program.
